Highly Sensitive People and creatives in general aren’t necessarily known for being brave.
We may be known for our integrity.
We may be known for our creativity.
We are most certainly known for our sensitivity.
But, when it comes to being brave? — Not so much.
Now, this isn’t because HSPs don’t believe in our skills or ideas; often, we don’t voice our ideas due to over-thinking or anxiety or low self-confidence. “What if…” is a common voice of doom for many Highly Sensitive People.
When it comes to freelancing, being brave can feel trickier. In a sea of freelance writers, we want to stand out from the crowd but, what if we suggest an idea or a tweak or a direction and our client doesn’t like it?
The thing is, as you grow in confidence and skill and ability, you’ll want to challenge yourself creatively. And you’ll want to challenge your clients too. The right client will appreciate a well-thought out creative suggestion — even if she doesn’t go for it in the end. You’ll be remembered for your bold ideas.
Yes! Innovative, bold, or creative suggestions are part of being a stand-out freelancer. If you believe that a simple change or a daring new direction will make your client’s advertisement or white paper or promotion better - be brave and suggest it. ✨
“We have to be able to choose courage over comfort, we have to be able to say, 'Look, I don't know if I'm going to nail this but I'm going to try because I know what I'm sure as hell not going to do is stay quiet.’ ” Brené Brown
