This really hit home for me! Brought up a question, too. Do you request an advance before you begin working on a project? And if yes, what percent of the full cost do you request? Wondering here because getting an advance seems like a good way to tend my business but also worried about client resistance. Appreciate hearing your thoughts <3
Glad it hit home, Judy! Hmmm… I don’t do as much freelancing right now as I work full-time as a comms director. When I was freelancing full-time, I occasionally structured bigger projects whereby I would receive 25% upfront, 25% mid-way, etc. etc. However, some of my colleagues will not proceed with any project unless they receive an advance/deposit.
Thanks for affirming this for us all! It's a great reminder.
You are so welcome, Cheniece. 🤲
