"Kindred spirits are not so scarce as I used to think. It's splendid to find out there are so many of them in the world."
Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery.
As Highly Sensitive People, we’re “sympathetic souls”. Floating around the world trying to positively impact the Earth, universe, animals, and fellow human beings.
Have you ever been able to detect a fellow HSP before they share that part of themselves with you (or before they even know this fact about themselves)?
Perhaps you see tears appear in their eyes as they listen to a beautiful piece of music
Perhaps you see someone twitch, grimace, or jump while watching a horror movie
Perhaps they share a secret with you and, in doing so, you detect their deep compassion and strong emotional range
As Highly Sensitive Souls, we have a lot of work to do in this world. In addition to the facets mentioned above, we are often drawn to the helping professions and creative works — wanting to dive deep into others’ psyches and inform the rest of the world about the true nature of world events.
Kindred Spirit & Connection
As a creative HSP, I can guess that you are rarely bored. You easily fall in love with a film, lose yourself as you walk through a museum or art gallery, or engage in meaningful conversation for hours. You see, once we find a kindred spirit — whether it’s an artist we don’t know but we’re drawn to their art or a new friend — our souls awaken and we feel more alive.
Kindred connections allow us to slough off the weight of the world for a short time as we pour ourselves into this new soul-connection. The horrors of current events disappear into the background and our creative spirit comes to the fore.
When kindred spirit strikes, do what you can to capture the moment and feeling. Grab your pen, your laptop or paint brush. Find a moment to jot down a poem or a few bullet points to capture your thoughts. Engage in further conversation with someone who understands so you can pinpoint the poignant moments that make the connection so perfect.
Because we carry so much weight with us, I encourage you to release, dance, sing, paint, write, and create whenever you find a kindred spirit and inspiration strikes.
