Hello, Dear Readers.
As I mentioned in last Friday’s article, I’m giving myself permission to rest this summer. It sounds absurd to write that, but, making the decision, and acting on it, provides me with a sense of relief and unexpected glee. ☺️
Resistance: the refusal to accept or comply with something; the attempt to prevent something by action or argument.
My mini resistance this summer includes:
No set yoga schedule — I’ll attend yoga classes if desired, but mostly I’m walking, hiking, and biking on my own this summer.
No volunteer committee meetings — I’m allowing myself to say “no” to a July committee meeting.
No book club — I love reading and enjoy my book club but don’t want to hold myself accountable to finishing a new book in July so I’ll be skipping that meet-up.
No original Substack articles — I’ll complete the series “Build Your HSP-Friendly Copywriting Business” and, if the mood strikes, write new articles. Otherwise, on summer Fridays, look out for popular and/or timely re-issued posts.
No default “yes-es” — I love my friends and generally enjoy socializing. But, I want to spend as much time as possible lounging in the backyard, reading at my own pace, sleeping, dreaming, painting, and taking walks through the woods (possibly with my partner and kids but also on my own). So, I won’t default to saying “yes” to all social plans.

I’ll still be working at my full-time role through the summer (with a few short vacations planned — including one to Salt Spring Island, B.C.!) as well as parenting (my children are young adults but they still need me).
However, as someone who basically operates as a single parent and has a normally highly structured and often challenging life, allowing these mini resistances and giving myself permission to say “no” (even to minor things) brings me joy and a sense of well-being. ☺️
If it’s summer in your part of the world, what’s your schedule looking like? Any creative breaks or mini resistences in mind?
To that end, today I’m sharing one of Secrets from an HSP Copywriter’s most popular articles as well as two other Substacks that resonated with me this week — hopefully these articles will impact you as well.
Until Next Time, Creative HSP — Stay Real. 🌞
