Defining Your 2024 Business Goals
Hint: Don't feel you need to be like everyone else.
Happy New Year, HSP Writer! What are your business goals this year? If you’re a budding entrepreneur/freelancer/self-employed guru, your goals may revolve around getting to a point where you can quit your 9-to-5 and pursue freelance writing full-time.
If you’re already working for yourself full-time, your goals may involve:
Make more money
Secure better, more prestigious clients
Incorporate more flexibility in your workday
Say good-bye to clients who no longer serve you
Be more organized
Hire a bookkeeper/accountant
Now, whether you’re eyeing the freelance game, new to freelancing or currently successfully self-employed, if you’re also a Highly Sensitive Person, please don’t feel like your goals should be the same as everyone else’s.
For better or worse, HSPs differ from the average population and we need to look at our health, work, and lifestyles differently than others do.
As a Highly Sensitive Person & Freelancer, your 2024 goals might be:
Incorporate fresh air and exercise into my daily routine
Ensure that my time online ends at least three hours prior to bedtime
Meditate daily
Find and play soothing/invigorating music while working
Find a therapist with whom you can discuss pressing matters
For me, there was something even more important than the above. As an HSP business-owner, the most important thing was keeping my integrity & core values at the heart of everything.
Got the heebie-jeebies about a new client? Didn’t sign them.
Asked to write about something I didn’t agree with? No thank you.
Received a request to work on a project close to my heart (but my dance card was already full)? Yes, please. I’ll make room.
You get it. Figure out what’s important for you and stick to those core values. Now, of course, bringing in money and paying our bills is paramount. But, beyond that, figure out what makes you tick, who you like to work with, what topics keep you buzzing, and what you absolutely won’t do.
These core values will help to guide you when you’re feeling confused and overwhelmed. I’ll write more about how to do this in another post.
But, for now, wishing you and your loved ones love, health, joy, and peace in 2024 and beyond.
